Rensselaer Bombers improved to 6-4 with a dominating 21-6 performance over previously unbeaten Delphi in the 1st round of the 2a Tournament. Bombers Offense, Defense and Special Teams were good throughout the evening and even overcame 3 lost fumbles in the 1st half as Bombers were up 7-6 at the break. Bombers used a punishing rushing attack tonight for a tune of 297 yards and 19 1st downs. Senior Aidan Stevens carried the ball 31 times for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Stevens also added all 3 PATs. Eli Hickman also had a touchdown and 62 yards on the ground. Braden Wright had 50 yard and Noah Bierma had 41 yards on the ground. Defensively, the Bombers were able to shut down Delphi’s offense by only giving up 22 yards rushing on the night. The pass defense was equally good as held Delphi to 10-25 passing for 148 yards total and 1 passing touchdown. Four different Bombers had 4 tackles as everyone was able to fly to the ball. Freshman Kelton Hesson from his OLB position was key in the Bombers Pass defense as he had 3 pass knockdowns. Bierma equally good was able to defend the deep ball 2 times and intercepting it 1 time. Bombers will be on the road for 2nd round of Sectional action as they travel back to Lewis Cass.
