Game Recap

What a senior night and finale to the regular season of 2016-2017! The players were battling in a hard fought win all night long. The game was physical, and was close all night long.

Rensselaer started all 5 seniors for the tribute to their great careers, and they got off to a tremendous start. Kobe Austin and Ben Hillan both hit three-point field goals and Landon Balch was the first to get on the board. The first quarter there were a lot of nerves that were visible as the game was sloppy on both teams parts. Rensselaer was down 9-8 after the first quarter.

The second quarter did not prove to smooth the game out much more. However, Jaylen Gilbert was able to provide some offense once he got into the game playing the reserve role for the first time in his career. Jaylen scored 8 of his points in the second quarter. Landon added 2 more points during the second period. Rensselaer regained the lead 18-17 at the half.

The third quarter was a much better played quarter as intermission proved to be the break both teams needed. Ben Hillan got Rensselaer off to a good start in the second half by knocking down the first shot of the half which was a three-point field goal. He also added 2 free throws and a 2 point field goal. Grant Myers added 5 points and Jaylen added 4 more points in the quarter to get the 3rd quarter score 34-31 advantage, Bombers.

The fourth quarter Rensselaer did just enough to hang on to the lead and get the victory. They were able to hit 74% of the free throws. For the game, they hit 6-three point field goals. They led the rebounding statistic for the game.

This game was a very exciting and great win for the Bombers. Winamac has beat Rensselaer 7 straight times including the last 3 where the Bombers have led late in the game. To get the lead and hang on to the victory, is a great day!

The Bombers finished 14-8 for 2nd time in 3 years. The Bombers are off until next Friday against the winner of Calumet and Wheeler in sectional action. The sectionals are at home. Come out and watch the Bombers!
